Fiddlers and Step Dancers Compete in Bobcaygeon

If you’d been invited to a wedding in Bobcaygeon a hundred years ago, chances are you would have danced to fiddle music, maybe even tried some step dancing. Today, those skills are considered a pioneer cultural art form. This Friday and Saturday, July 26 and 27, Bobcaygeon is the setting for the annual Ontario Fiddle and Step Dancing Contest, a competition run by volunteers dedicated to preserving this vibrant heritage. This year marks the 50th Fiddle and Step Dance Contest and it starts tonight! Don’t miss this chance to see fiddlers and step dancers display their talents tonight and Saturday at the Bobcaygeon Arena and Community Centre on 51 Mansfield St., only five minutes from Highland Green.
